If you are moving cross-country, and you want to do it in the least expensive way possible, you may want to think about using freight services to move your furniture. Of course, you will have to do all of the packing yourself rather than letting movers do it for you, but the more work you do, the less it is going to cost you to have your items shipped to your new home. Here are some of the things you need to do in order to be prepared when the truck arrives to pick up your furniture and other items you are having shipped. Packing And Wrapping The items you are moving are going to be loaded onto a truck, and they may be travelling several thousand kilometres. During the trip, it is easy for them to move around, which can lead to being bumped and damaged. It is your responsibility to make sure that everything is properly packed and wrapped. For instance, large pieces of furniture should be covered in moving blankets or pads, which need to be tied down. You may also want to cover furniture with plastic shrink wrap. Appliances should be covered with bubble wrap, to keep it from getting scratched and dented. Artwork should be packed in boxes that are specially made for paintings and should be protected with packing peanuts and bubble wrap. If you are also shipping smaller items, they need to be properly wrapped and packed in strong boxes. Avoid going to your local super market for boxes, as they do not have enough strength. Instead, buy special moving boxes, which are available from most moving companies. They will also have all of the other supplies you need, including packing tape, bubble wrap, shrink wrap, moving pads and more. Bringing Items Outside The job of the truck driver is to load the items onto the truck, take them to their final destination and unload them. This doesn’t mean that the driver is going to haul all of the items out of your house. You will need to make sure that everything is outside and waiting when the driver arrives. Heavy furniture and appliances should be as close to the curb or the edge of your driveway as possible so the driver and assistant don’t have to carry things too far. If you do not have the furniture outside and ready and the driver has to do it, the freight company may charge an additional fee. Peter Collins here, a few months ago I was having a bad day, while it took a lot of effort, I still managed to be kind to others and keep my work performance professional. A few days later a worker (who knew what was going on at home) let me know how much watching me be kind to others had impacted him. While I had no idea that my actions were influencing anyone at the time, his complement meant a lot to me. I hope to be able to help others with business matters.
